Our Vision

“A world with real equality would look past what we are, and focus on who we are” - Leigh-Anne Pinnock

With our mission statement of Investing in Equality, that’s the world we hope to help create. In 2021 we supported 11 charities, offering each charity up to £5,000 through our Give Back Grant. We received hundreds of applications from grassroot charities that are already vital pillars within their local communities.

We envision The Black Fund becoming a name people trust - especially for young people - to offer opportunities, access, work and experience in fields they’re interested in, with a focus on the creative industry.

How We Approach Change

Through our first round of funding in 2021, we recognised the best way to increase our reach and impact was to prioritise our funding by focusing on 2 themes or campaigns throughout each year. This approach enables us to better highlight needs of the black community, as well as galvanise support from the media, other charities and organisations who have a relevant role in the theme.

Each campaign or theme will always highlight and help the black community affected by that topic, keeping our community at the heart of The Black Fund's activity. For 2022 Mental Health and Wellbeing will be the first theme for the year, followed by Education for the second half. This allows us to focus our funding rounds, better target supporters and organisations and in turn, enables us to invest much more funding to these specific areas, making a focused and measurable impact. For example, instead of funding one mental health organisation, we can fund up to 8, and increase the funds granted.

Our approach to change also includes creating partnerships that allow us to create and provide opportunities, and use our social platform to help shift perspectives and increase education. As part of this we partnered with One Young World to select four young leaders from the black community to be recognised at the One Young World Summit.

FINALLY, THE WORLD IS AWAKE
